La Croix

"Audrey Gordon, echoing the wise words of other writers, from Nathalie Sarrante to Mario Vargas Llosa, inscribes in her own images those of the filmmakers who, in France and elsewhere, have given a face to Madame Bovary."

Mohammed Aïssaoui, Le Figaro

"The strength of the film lies in its writing, its rhythm, accompanied by inspired music and the voice of Natalia Dontcheva."

Le Figaro

"The film is a great success because it speaks remarkably well of a great literary work, of an era, and deciphers the work of the famous writer. »

Synopsis

LOVE LETTER TO FLAUBERT

The rule of appearances, the quest for true love, dreams of adventure... Madame Bovary plunges into the turpitudes of a woman trying to escape from her boredom and her role as a bourgeois wife in a patriarchal and rigid country society.  That world is a thing of the past, and the obscenity and immorality reproached to Flaubert in his depiction of his heroine's vices make us smile in the age of Houellebecq and Despentes. But would Emma Bovary be freer and less scandalous today? How would she live? Would she divorce Charles? Who would be Rodolphe and who would be Léon? Would she take antidepressants?
